Assault weapons, continue the ban

The 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Act is due to expire. Congress needs to renew the act for another 10 years to continue the ban, these are the high-firepower assault weapons like UZIs and AK-47s.

From a study data shows that the assault weapons banned by name in the Act have plunged by 66 percent as a percentage of overall crime gun traces since the statute was enacted in 1994. It also shows a substantial decline - 45 percent - in assault weapons as a percentage of overall crime gun traces, even after inclusion of "copycat" guns. (1)

Presidents Reagan, Ford, Carter, Clinton all supported the assault weapons ban. And President Bush has said that he will sign the bill, so Congress must send him the bill.
